NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck girls swim team continues to progress in the pool. And it showed last Friday in a win over Torrington.
The Greyhounds topped Torrington, 94-88. The Greyhounds posted 37 season-best times versus the Red Raiders after posting 30 in their previous meet.
Addison Best (200 free and 500 free) and Cara Rotatori (100 free and 100 back) both won two events, while Faith Tuscano (200 IM) and Alexandra Silva (100 breast) also won individual events.
The 200 free relay squad of Silva, Olivia Filanowski, Julianna Scully and Best swam to first, as well, in a time of 1:58.21.
Best times were achieved in all events against Torrington. Even in events that the ‘Hounds didn’t win, advancements have been made.
In the 50 freestyle, Scully had the best Naugy time and posted a season-best time of 29.81. Amanda Rinaldi swam a 29.81, also a best time, and Sarah Rawding had a time of 31.13.
Naugy had five best times in the 100 free, including Rotatori’s winning time of 1:00.31. Filanowski (1:08.31), Rawding (1:10.90), Briana Couch (1:14.31) and Katie Meyer (1:31.02) also did best times.
In the 100 breast stroke, Rinaldi, Scully, Brin Battisti, and Faith Rawding all had season-best times. Battisti also scored a 125.22 in the diving event.
The ‘Hounds faced Masuk Tuesday in an out of conference meet. Naugatuck gave the visiting Panthers all they could handle, but were edged out, 88-86.
Best took first in the 500 free in 5:57.29 and Rotatori won the 200 free in 2:12.27. Katie Brown won the diving competition with a score of 168.53. The 400 free relay team (Tuscano, Scully, Rotatori, Best) took first, as well, in 4:23.74.
Naugatuck (6-6) will face Holy Cross and Wilby to close out the regular season on Friday at home.
The NVL trials are scheduled for Nov. 3, with the diving event on Nov. 4 and the finals set for Nov. 6. All three events will take place at Kennedy High School in Waterbury.
