Housatonic Valley advances to championship

NEWTOWN — Housatonic Valley won three games in the Senior Babe Ruth state tournament to advance to the championship game.

Housatonic Valley, which is made up of players from Naugatuck, Seymour, Shelton and Milford, defeated Stamford, 7-3, Saturday at High Meadow Field in Newtown.

Evan Pelliccia pitched a complete game. He allowed three hits and struck out six batters. Branden Caldwell and Nick Dagostino each had two hits and two RBI. Bryan Rossetti added a RBI triple, and Ryan Murphy knocked two hits and a RBI.

On Sunday, Housatonic Valley beat Newtown, 7-4.

Andrew Golstein gave up four hits and earned the win on the mound. Gary DeRosa earned the save in relief. Pat Murphy paced the offense with two hits and two RBI.
Dan Godette had two hits and one RBI. Chris Yacavone, Caldwell and Ryan Murphy each had a base hit and a RBI.

Housatonic Valley defeated North Haven, 8-3, Tuesday to earn a trip to the championship game Thursday.

Tyler Carriera, Chris Knight, Craig McNammara and Nick D’agostino combined to pitch a five-hitter versus North Haven. Nick d’Agostino led the offense with thee hits and three RBI. Godette added two hits and two RBI. Pelliccia and Rossetti each had two hits and a RBI.

Pop Warner holding football, cheer sign-ups

NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck Pop Warner is still accepting registration for youth football and cheer.

Registration can be done when equipment is handed out July 21 for Jr. Midget and Pee Wee, July 22 for Jr. Pee Wee and July 23 for Mitey Mites. Equipment will be handed out each night from 6 to 8 p.m. at Naugatuck High School, 543 Rubber Ave.

NHS coaches, players hosting volleyball camps

NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Volleyball Camp will be held Aug. 3 through Aug. 7 and Aug. 10 through Aug. 14 at Breen Field on Hotchkiss Street.

The camps, which run daily from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., are directed by coaches and players from the Naugatuck High School volleyball team. Skills and drills will focus on proper volleyball form. Swim clinic offered at Woodland

BEACON FALLS — A two-week swim clinic for competitive swimmers entering grades nine through 12 will be held at Woodland Regional High School.

The clinic will run Aug. 10 to Aug. 14 and Aug. 17 to Aug. 21 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The clinic will focus on stroke technique, speed drills, and conditioning. The cost is $125 per week.
