BEACON FALLS — The up-and-down season continued for the Woodland baseball team.

After winning three games in a row earlier this month, the Hawks dropped their last three NVL games to miss out on a spot in the league tournament. Woodland (10-9 overall, 9-9 NVL) finished ninth in the league, one game behind the eighth and final spot for the NVL tourney.

On May 13, Tyler Boisvert stuck out 10 against Naugatuck, but the Hawks fell, 8-1. Sam Merriman had two hits, and Dylan Cummings added an RBI single to pace the Hawks at the plate.

Woodland dropped a 10-4 game at Watertown the following day. Jared Grillo had a single, a double and an RBI, and Mike Tuohy added a single and a double.

On Monday, the Hawks were shut out, 5-0, by Wolcott. Mike Kenney and Tuohy connected for singles.

The Hawks are scheduled to close out the regular season Wednesday in an out-of-conference game against Joel Barlow.

Woodland will now turn its focus to the Class M state tournament. The Hawks were 23rd in the Class M rankings as of Wednesday morning. State pairings will be announced May 29.
