Baseball
The Greyhounds stand at 5-5 on the year after a stretch of five games in seven days. Naugy got things started April 23 with a 9-3 win over Oxford. Kyle Torak led the charge with a single, a double and three RBI. Evan Pelliccia and Jason Bradley combined on a six-hitter. Naugy fell to Seymour, 16-2, the following day. Bradley hit an RBI triple for Naugatuck and Jovanni Torres chipped in with two hits and an RBI. This week began with a 7-1 loss to St. Paul on Monday. Pelliccia had two hits and a run scored for Naugatuck. Naugy bounced back Tuesday with a 5-4 win over Holy Cross to improve to 4-5 on the season. Pelliccia tossed a complete game and scored the game-winning run on Torres’ walk-off single. Kyle Torok and Joe Kwaak both hit homeruns in a three-run second inning. The Greyhounds defeated Kennedy, 8-2, on Wednesday. Pelliccia had three hits and three runs scored. Blake Hess added a two-run single. Naugatuck will hit the road to face Sacred Heart on Friday and Torrington on May 4.
Softball
Naugatuck dropped a couple of games against top NVL competition to close out last week. The Greyhounds fell to Seymour, 2-0, on April 24. Jenna Miller scattered eight hits for Naugatuck. On April 25, Naugy faced Oxford and ace Ashley Guillette, who pitched a perfect game as the Greyhounds fell, 11-0. Naugy got over.500 on the season (7-5) with four straight wins this week. The Greyhounds earned a 9-4 win over St. Paul on Monday. Kara Klimaszewski had three hits and a run scored for Naugatuck. Lauren Burns doubled, had three RBI and scored twice. Miller struck out seven Falcons and allowed seven hits. Naugatuck beat Ansonia, 19-1, Tuesday in five innings. Sandra Dinis recorded three hits, two RBI and three runs scored. Shannon Searles added three hits and two RBI, as Erika Andreoli had two hits, an RBI and three runs. The Greyhounds topped Kennedy, 16-1, Wednesday. Dinis had four hits, two RBI and four runs scored. Alex Langhans, Shannon Searles and Jackie Aronin each had two hits. On Thursday, Naugy crushed Sacred Heart, 20-0, in five innings. Searles, Langhans and Taya Diaz each hit home runs for the Greyhounds. Naugatuck will host Torrington on May 4.
Track and Field
The Naugatuck boys and girls teams both earned victories over Holy Cross and Crosby on Tuesday. The boys beat Holy Cross, 94-58, and topped Crosby, 92-58, to improve to 5-3 on the season. The boys won 10 of the 18 events, including the 4×800, 4×100, 110 hurdles, 3,200, long jump and triple jump. The girls sprinted past Crosby, 125-22, and beat Holy Cross, 82-64, to bring their record to 6-2. The girls took first in nine events, including the 100 hurdles, 1,600, pole vault, shot put and javelin. Naugatuck will be on the track May 5 against Oxford, Wolcott and Wilby at Wolcott High.

Baseball
The Hawks tripled up Sacred Heart on the scoreboard April 22 in a 15-5 win. Matt Spofford allowed three earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out seven in five innings. Sam Merriman hit a double and a triple to go along with two RBI and two runs scored. Tyler Boisvert added four RBI and three runs scored. Two days later, the Hawks edged St. Paul 9-8. Merriman threw four innings of relief to earn the win. Merriman also had a single, two RBI and two runs scored for Woodland, and Mike Tuohy added two singles and two RBI. Woodland fell, 15-0, to Torrington on April 25. Matt Butterworth, Mike Kenney and Mike Tuohy had singles for Woodland. The Hawks bounced back on Monday with a 17-1 win over Ansonia. Spofford allowed five hits and no walks with seven strikeouts. Dylan Cummings had a two-run double, in a six-run fifth, and Jared Grillo added a two-run double in a seven-run seventh. The Hawks fell, 6-1, to Holy Cross on Wednesday. Boisvert had two doubles and a single. Woodland dropped to 7-5 on the year after falling, 9-5, to Watertown Thursday. Spofford had a double, a single and three RBI. Joe Poeta added three hits and an RBI. The Hawks will visit Wolcott May 4.
Softball
The Hawks offense was alive in an 11-3 win over Sacred Heart April 22. Cameron Caswell had a single, a double and a home run along with three RBI and three runs scored. Gabby Bedryczuk also homered and drove home two runs. Stephanie Kiley tossed a three-hitter with five walks and five strikeouts to earn the win. The Hawks dropped the next two. Woodland fell, 7-1, to St. Paul April 24, and 16-2 to Torrington April 25. Carla Piccolo and Caswell each had three hits versus Seymour. Piccolo had a triple and a single, and Emily Brouillette hit a double to lead Woodland against Torrington. The Hawks earned a 4-3 win over Ansonia on Monday. Maddie Hupprich had 15 strikeouts and allowed four hits. Samantha White singled, tripled and drove in a run, while Piccolo singled twice and scored two runs. Woodland fell to Holy Cross, 6-0, on Wednesday. Caswell hit a triple as Brouillette hit a single and drew two walks. The Hawks dropped to under .500 on the season (5-6) after falling to Watertown, 13-1, Thursday. Caswell singled to bring home Sam Buzgo. The Hawks will host Derby Saturday and Wolcott May 4.
Track and Field
The Hawks swept a meet Tuesday picking up wins over Seymour, Wilby and St. Paul. The girls remained perfect at 10-0 beating Seymour, 90.5-59.5, and flying past Wilby and St. Paul, 142-8 and 127-23, respectively. The girls picked up first in seven events, including the 4×800, 4×100, javelin, 800 and 4×400. The boys stand at 10-1 after defeating Seymour, 80-70, Wilby, 111-39, and St. Paul, 124-26. The boys took first in half of the 18 events, including the 4×800, 110 hurdles, 1,600, long jump, pole vault, 3,200, and 4×400. The Hawks will host Kennedy and Sacred Heart May 5.
