Track and Field

The Greyhounds opened the season Saturday at the 10th annual Bloomfield Invitational. Results from the meet weren’t reported. Naugy opened the NVL season Tuesday versus Kennedy, Torrington and Seymour. The boys beat Torrington, 84-66, and Kennedy, 103-46, but fell to Seymour, 82-68, to open the league season 2-1. The boys took home first in the 4×800, 110 hurdles, 1600, long jump, 300 hurdles, 800, and 3200. The girls duplicated the boys’ performance beating Torrington, 96-53, and Kennedy, 130-15, but falling to Seymour, 87-63, to open 2-1. The girls claimed first place in the 4×800, high jump, 100, 1,600, 400, 800, 200, and 3,200. The Greyhounds are scheduled to hit the track again this Saturday in the Panther Invitational at Plainfield High School. Naugatuck will host Derby, Watertown and Woodland April 21.

The Hawks opened the season with an out-of-conference meet April 9 versus Bullard Havens Tech and Kaynor Tech. Results from the meet weren’t reported. The Woodland boys and girls teams started the defense of their NVL track titles Tuesday versus Oxford and Crosby. Both squads left the meet with 2-0 records. The boys beat Oxford, 135-15, and Crosby, 84-66. The boys took home first in nine events, including the 4×800, 110 hurdles, 1,600, 3,200, 4×400, javelin and the pole vault. The girls beat Oxford, 100-50, and Crosby, 140-10. The girls took first in 12 events, including the 4×800, 4×400, 1,600, 800, 300 hurdles, high jump, javelin, discus, long jump and pole vault. The Hawks will be back in action April 21 versus Naugatuck, Derby and Watertown at Naugatuck.
