MIDDLETOWN — Naugy produced a pair of top-10 relay finishes at the Class L state swim championships last week at Wesleyan University.

The Greyhounds took ninth in the 400 free relay in a time of 3:35.88 and grabbed 10th in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:37.86.

As a team, Naugy finished 14th with 125 points out of 21 teams with Pomperaug winning the overall meet with 876.5 points.

Peter Morrissey, Omari Solomon, Michael Cocchiola and Evan Bombery all swam in multiple events and combined in the 400 free relay to give Naugy its best finish of the day. Their time beat their previous best (3:37.42) that was recorded at the NVL championships.

Bombery also competed with Eric Cruz, Brian Goggin and Colby Storm in the 200 free relay.

Individually, Solomon had the best finish of the meet for the Greyhounds. Solomon took 14th in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.20, while also placing 24th in the 100 free (53.95).

Bombery, the lone medalist for Naugy at the NVL championships, placed 16th in two individual events. He went 1:54.24 in the 200 free and 5:15.73 in the 500 free. Also in the 500 free, Goggin placed 23rd in 5:25.17.

Cocchiola finished 21st in the 50 free in 24.20. In the 100 butterfly, Nick Ryan went 59.23 to place 17th, while Storm took 24th in 1:01.24.

These results cap off a successful season for a deep Naugy team. Earlier this month, the Greyhounds finished fifth out of 12 teams with 370.5 points at the NVL swimming and diving championship. With the most amount of qualifiers for the meet, Naugy finished 21 points shy of fourth-place Watertown.

Bombery, Cruz, Goggin, Morrissey, Ryan, Solomon and Storm are all expected to return next season. With a roster of 37 competitors, and only six slated to graduate this spring, expect Naugy’s future to be bright.
