NEW HAVEN — The Woodland Hawks competed in the indoor track and field state championships last week.
Last Saturday, the girls team finished 15th out of 29 schools in the Class M meet.
Jazmyn Menzies scored points in both the high jump and long jump events. Menzies took fifth in the high jump with a 4-foot, 10-inch leap. She reached 15-feet, 8.75 inches in the long jump and placed sixth overall.
Megan Lynch reached 8 feet and finished in fifth place in the pole vault, while teammate Emma Poryanda took ninth with a mark of 7 feet, 6 inches.
The Hawks had another fifth-place finish in the 4-by-400 relay. Haleigh Resnick, Lisa Thrasher, Jazmyn Menzies, Clara Drozdowski, Michelle Angrand and Ava Capuano ran a time of 4:19.42.
Other top-10 finishes included Clara Drozdowski in the 1,000 meter (7th, 3:15.12) and Kelsey Mitchell in the 3,200 (9th, 12:51.49).
The boys finished 28th out of 30 schools at the Class S meet Feb. 12. The boys had several top-10 finishes.
The Hawks finished fifth in the 4-by-800 relay in 8:49.69. Zach Noreika, Jeff Moffat, Dean Conway, Jeffrey Giusto, Matt Giaquinto and Paul Jones teamed up to score two points for Woodland.
In the pole vault, Drew Chura reached a mark of 10 feet, 6 inches and took sixth overall to grab .50 points.
The Hawks also received a ninth-place finish in the 4-by-200 relay. Thomas Bethin, James Yacavone, Sean Mardin, Benjamin Nuss, Jeffrey Webster and Colton Cronin ran a time of 1:40.14.
