MIDDLETOWN — The Naugatuck girls swim team finished in 14th place out of the 22 teams at the Class M swim meet held at Wesleyan University in Middletown Nov. 11.

The Greyhounds, who finished the season 7-3 in the Naugatuck Valley League and took fifth place the NVL meet, collected their 103 points over the course of six events on the afternoon, with strong performances from numerous girls on the team, especially junior Cara Rotatori.

Rotatori, Alexandra Silva, Erica Spino and Tattiana Serrano comprised the 200 medley relay team that finished 12th in the event in 2:06.50, equaling the Greyhounds’ best finish in any race at the meet.

Their other 12th place finish came with Rotatori doing all the work by herself as she finished with a time of 1:05.67 in the 100 backstroke, just three-hundredths of a second out of 11th place.

A 15th place finish was grabbed in the 400 freestyle relay by Rotatori, Addiston Best, Olivia Filanowski and Faith Tuscano as they racked up a time of 4:16.79, very close to the rest of their competition.

The girls performed better in the 200 relay freestyle relay, finishing 14th with a time of 1:53.26 with Serrano, Silva, Best and Spino joining forces for the Greyhounds.

Serrano also gained some points in individual events. She finished 23rd place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.69 and 19th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:00.15.

Lauralton Hall won the meet with 605.5 points as Wethersfield (553), Brookfield (491), East Lyme (457.5) and Branford (431) rounded out the rest of the top five respectively.
Naugatuck finished 42 points behind Johnathon Law for 13th place and two points ahead of Torrington for the 15th spot.
