Naugatuck and Woodland kicked off the soccer season Tuesday as the boys and girls teams faced off on the pitch.

The Naugatuck boys went to Woodland and came away with a 4-1 victory. Ygor Silva scored a pair of goals to go along with one assist for the Greyhounds. Joe Martins added the other two goals while Josh Avitas and Candido Carelo both assisted on goals.

Fez Pereira and Rabbi Ahmed combined in goal to make five saves for Naugatuck (1-0).
Christian Poirier scored for the Hawks while Thomas Bethin added an assist. A.J. Oliveira made 12 saves in goal for Woodland (0-1).

The girls needed overtime to decide their match.

Woodland earned a 2-1 win in Naugatuck. Sam Plasky scored the game-winning goal with 7:50 remaining in the first overtime. Jess Rodrigues scored the first goal with 9:37 remaining in regulation and Jenna Pannone made six saves for Woodland (1-0).

Naugatuck’s Hannah Lauer tied the score at 1-1 with a goal with 7:05 left in the second half off a pass from Taylor Campos. Sophie Boucher and Cassidy Baranowski combined for 14 saves for Naugatuck (0-1).
