NAUGATUCK — The end of a meet tends to challenge the endurance of an inexperienced swimmer. And while the Greyhounds’ lineup lacks depth in numbers and experience, the results tell a positive story.

In Naugy’s most recent meet, a 99.5 to 80.5 loss to Watertown on Sept. 19, the ‘Hounds put up best times down the stretch.

In the final event, the 400-yard free relay team of Tathiana Serrano, Addison Best, Faith Tuscano and Cara Rotatori dropped 9 seconds off its best time at 4:12.31, only 2 seconds off first place.

“It’s tough to do best times at the end of the meet, my girls did it and I’m pleased with their progress,” Naugy head coach Jim McKee said.

In the 100 breaststroke, the second-to-last event, Naugy took second, third and fourth. Alexandra Silva placed second (1:21.37), Amanda Rinaldi was third (1:31.72) and Olivia Filanowski was fourth (1:32.21).

Rotatori won two individual events and was part of another first-place finish in the 200 medley relay with Alexandra Silva, Erica Spino and Serrano. Rotatori took the 200 IM in 2:27.69 and the backstroke in 1:04.92.

Serrano also won the 50 free in 28.29 seconds, while Spino tied as a runner-up in 28.58.

Another individual winner was Best, who trimmed over 20 seconds off her season-best time in the 500 free. Best won the race in 6:14.61.

Also in the 500 free, Tuscano took second with a time of 6:19.01, which represented a lifetime, according to McKee. Meghan Lauer placed fifth and also picked up a point for the ‘Hounds and dropped over 20 seconds off her best time.

The Greyhounds (1-1) had 60 best times in the meet against Watertown. Naugy had 32 best times against Kennedy in the season-opener one week earlier.

“When you leave your best time in the pool at the end of the day, I can’t ask for anything more,” McKee said.

Naugy’s next opportunity to improve will come Friday in a home meet against Seymour at 6 p.m. After that, the ‘Hounds will host Oxford on Sept. 30 at 4 p.m.
