NAUGATUCK — The Hackers have advanced in the Connecticut National Adult Baseball Association playoffs.

On Sunday, the Naugatuck-based Hackers defeated the Connecticut Flyers of Bridgeport, 7-6, in the quarterfinals. The Hackers will face Orange or Meriden this Sunday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. at Rotary Field.

Mike Fox tossed a complete game with seven strikeouts and earned the victory. He benefited from early offense.

The Hackers scored four runs in the first two innings and jumped out to a 7-0 lead. Wes Dutton slammed his seventh homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the bottom of the first inning.

In the second, Mike Townsend hit a solo-homer. It was Townsend’s fourth home run of the season.

R.J. Shaw extended the inning with a double, followed by a Steve Webb single. Fox helped himself and followed with an RBI single to make it 4-0.

The Hackers added more insurance runs in the fourth.

Mat Jaronko led off with a single. Shaw followed with another single before Webb drove home Jaronko to make it 5-0.

Fox had another hit to score Shaw, then Mike Bochino’s sac fly accounted for the Hackers’ final run.

Entering the top of the fifth, the Hackers led 7-1. They held on for the nine-inning victory.

After a 16-7 regular season, the Hackers finished second in the 13-team league and won a spot in the eight-team playoff. The Hackers have won four postseason tournament titles in the last seven years.
