NAUGATUCK — As many as six scholarship offers were made to Sharrieff Grice.

Boston College, UMass, Rutgers, New Hampshire, Fordham and Albany all tried to lure the Kingswood-Oxford prep school senior from Naugatuck. In early June, Grice settled on Boston College and Steve Addazio, the ex-Cheshire High coach, giving the Eagles a verbal commitment for 2015.

The 6-foot-1, 212-pound Grice will sign a national letter of intent in February.

“I feel like I will be getting the best of both worlds by going to Boston College,” said Grice.

A running back and linebacker at Kingswood-Oxford, Grice will likely play linebacker or strong safety for the Eagles. He will major in criminology.

“I had two meetings with coach Addazio and you can tell he is a very passionate coach,” Grice said. “The whole staff is like him. They get you excited and fired up to play football.”

Grice’s college stock rose after earning MVP honors at two offseason camps in New Jersey and Miami. His family lived in Fairfield County while he was in middle school, but moved to Naugatuck when he started high school.

Grice attended Naugatuck High as a freshman, then transferred to Sacred Heart for his sophomore year before moving on to Kingswood-Oxford in West Hartford, where he repeated his sophomore year.

“My parents (Jeff and Maria) explained the gains and rewards of going to Kingswood, and I fully knew the responsibility and commitment needed,” Grice said. “The reward was truly greater than the extra time that I needed to travel back and forth to school. Whether it’s been in the classroom or on the field, the experience has been wonderful. I have been able to continue to grow as a student-athlete and as a person. All of my teachers want to see me succeed and move on to the next level. Hopefully, I will continue to grow when I arrive at BC.”

In 2013, Grice rushed for 890 yards and 13 touchdowns while helping K-O to a 6-2 record.
