Hop Brook Golf Course announces closures

NAUGATUCK — The Hop Brook Golf Course will be closed on the mornings May 27 and May 28 for maintenance work.

Aerification will take place during this time. The course will open for play both days at 12 p.m.

Also, on June 7, the golf course will close at 12 p.m. for an outside golf outing. All players must clear the course no later than 11:45 a.m.

Legion holding tryouts for new players

The Prospect-Beacon Falls Senior American Legion Baseball team will be holding new player tryouts for the upcoming season.

To be eligible, players must reside in Prospect or Beacons Falls and be between the ages of 15 and 18. For more information, call Jeff Clarke at (203) 228-0374.

NHS dance team now a varsity squad

NAUGATUCK —Naugatuck High School will have a new varsity team next school year.

The dance team, which is currently a club, was given varsity status by the Board of Education on May 8.

This change in status will allow the team to compete against other varsity teams in the Naugatuck Valley League.

Senior Babe Ruth to hold meeting for players

NAUGATUCK — A meeting for players interested in playing Senior Babe Ruth will be held May 28 at 7 p.m. at Rotary Field.

Senior Babe Ruth is for players born between Jan. 1, 1995 and April 30, 1998 and who live in Naugatuck, Waterbury, Prospect and Beacon Falls. For more information, call Bob Neth at (203) 729-9334.

Men’s golf league teeing off

PROSPECT — Registration is open for a men’s adult golf league.

The golf league plays on Mondays through September at East Mountain Golf Course in Waterbury.  Tee off time is 4:30 p.m. The league is for players 21 years old and older and consists of 12 teams of two.

Pop Warner sets registration dates

NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck Pop Warner football and cheer will hold registration on May 31 and June 21.

Registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hop Brook School, 75 Crown St. Pop Warner is open to children ages 5 to 15 living in Naugatuck, Beacon Falls and Prospect. The fee is $175 for tackle football and cheer, $75 for flag football and flag cheer with a $350 maximum family cost. Financial assistance is available. Softball league about to start season

PROSPECT — The Women’s Slow Pitch Softball League will start the season in June.

The league is open to women, 18 years old and older, looking to compete against in a relaxed atmosphere. Games are Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 6 p.m. at Canfield Park in Prospect.

Sign-ups open for junior league

NAUGATUCK — Sign-ups for the Hop Brook Golf Course 2014 junior interclub league and summer junior lesson series is open.

All junior evaluations will be held June 3 and June 4. The junior interclub team is open to all golfers ages 8 to 13. Also, there will be a high school interclub team as well. The price for the interclub team is $200, which includes weekly practice, lessons, team shirt, weekly matches and an end of summer banquet.
