BEACON FALLS — Woodland begins its bid for a football championship tonight in Beacon Falls.

No. 4 Woodland (10-2) faces No. 5 Morgan (10-1) in the quarterfinals of Class S football playoffs with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m. The Hawks earned the fourth seed and a home playoff game with their 22-19 win over Seymour the morning after Thanksgiving.

Woodland is in for a test as Morgan of Clinton boasts the state’s leading rusher in Jake Ward, who has 2,491 yards and 41 touchdowns on the year.

A Hawks’ win would put them in the semifinals Saturday against the winner of the game between  No. 1 Capital/Classical/AF (11-0) and No. 8 Bloomfield (9-2).

Naugatuck (9-2) just missed out on an appearance in the Class L playoffs thanks to a 66-28 loss to Ansonia (12-0) Thanksgiving morning and New London’s Thanksgiving upset win over Norwich Free Academy.
