District tournament play for all four local Little Leagues began last weekend and is set to continue through next weekend.

In 11- and 12-year-old baseball, all four local leagues fell in their first games. Peter J. Foley Little League lost to Shelton National (14-2), Robert A. Cole Little League fell to Derby (12-5), Prospect Little League lost to Shelton American (11-3), and Union City Little League fell to Seymour (4-2).

All four teams are still alive in the double-elimination tournament. Prospect and Peter J. Foley square off on Tuesday with the winner facing Union City on Thursday. Robert A. Cole will face Ansonia on Thursday. Should the locals survive the third round, they’ll play Saturday morning at Prospect.

In 9- and 10-year-old baseball, the local teams have fared much better thus far. Prospect won its first two games over Derby (13-3) and Seymour (3-1) and will face Shelton National on Tuesday for a trip to the championship. Prospect will still be alive with a loss.

Peter J. Foley is set to face Seymour on Tuesday in an elimination game. PJF would play again on Thursday if it beats Seymour.

Robert A. Cole also won a game in the tournament. After losing its opener to Shelton National (12-0), it rebounded to beat Shelton American (3-1) before being eliminated by Seymour (8-3).

The 10- and 11-year-old baseball tournament will begin on Saturday. Union City is the only local league in the tournament, and it will visit Seymour on Saturday morning.

Union City also made some noise in the 11- and 12-year-old softball tournament, which ended last weekend. Union City won its first two games against Ansonia (13-1) and Oxford (11-1) before losing to champion Seymour (11-1) and runner-up Shelton (14-7).

In the 9- and 10-year-old softball tournament, Union City will play in an elimination game on Tuesday night against Oxford after an opening-round loss to Seymour (11-1) on Sunday.
