Naugatuck police blotter: forgery

Police-badgeThe Naugatuck Police Department reported the following arrests:

PETER MARTONICK, 44, of 44 Country Hollow Road, Naugatuck, was charged Aug. 23 with issuing a bad check, forgery in the third degree and identity in the third degree.

Police reported on Aug. 23 at approximately 9:18 a.m. Martonick turned himself in on an active arrest warrant. The warrant was for a forgery complaint. Police reported Martonick opened a checking account using his deceased mother’s information. After receiving the checks he would fill out the amount he needed, sign his mother’s name and deposit it into his account, police reported. Martonick was given a court date of Sept. 4 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $2,500 surety bond.

JOHN PAYNE, 22, of 26 Elmhurst St., Naugatuck, was charged Aug. 23 with criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, possession of controlled substance: narcotics and non-student in possession of drugs near a school, high school or day care.

Police reported on Aug. 23 Payne was arrested on an active arrest warrant at court. The warrant was for weapon violation on July 15, 2013. The Naugatuck Police Department assisted a Connecticut parole officer on a search of a home. During the search, police reported, Payne was found to be in possession of Walther .380 caliber handgun and 17 grams of cocaine. Payne was given a court date of Aug. 23 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and held for arraignment.

ALEC GRIDLEY, 29, of 520 South Main St., Naugatuck, was charged Aug. 23 with assault in the third degree, breach of peace, unlawful restraint in the first degree and threatening in the first degree.

Police reported on Aug. 23 at approximately 3:23 a.m. officers responded to 520 South Main St. for a domestic disturbance between boyfriend and girlfriend. During an argument, police reported, Gridley pulled the victim onto the ground by her hair and punched the victim on the left side of her face. Gridley threatened to get a firearm, police reported. Officers did not locate a firearm in the residence, police reported. Gridley was given a court date of Aug. 26 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $20,000 non-surety bond.

MONIQUE DAVIS, 34, of 9 Kenyon St., Waterbury, was charged Aug. 23 with issuing a bad check.

Police reported on Aug. 23 at approximately 10:12 a.m. Davis was arrested on an active arrest warrant. Davis was given a court date of Sept. 4 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $500 surety bond.

SCOTT MERENDA, 54, of 69 Woodcrest Drive, Naugatuck, was charged Aug. 23 with driving under the influence, insurance coverage fails minimum requirements and failure to drive in proper lane.

Police reported on Aug. 23 at approximately 11:24 p.m. an officer conducted a motor vehicle investigation on New Haven Road. During the investigation, police reported, it was determined Merenda was operating under the influence of alcohol. Merenda was given a court date of Sept. 5 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $500 non-surety bond.

DERRIC NORTHROP, 21, of 28 Hickory Road, Naugatuck, was charged Aug. 24 with driving under the influence and traveling unreasonably fast.

Police reported on Aug. 24 at approximately 2:15 a.m. an officer conducted a motor vehicle investigation on High Street. During the investigation, police reported, it was determined Northrop was operating under the influence of alcohol. Northrop was given a court date of Sept. 5 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $500 non-surety bond.

MALCOLM JOSEPH, 39, of 145 Lantern Park Drive, Naugatuck, was charged Aug. 24 with failure to appear in the second degree.

Police reported on Aug. 24 at approximately 8:27 p.m. Joseph was arrested on an active arrest warrant. Joseph was given a court date of Sept. 4 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $2,500 surety bond.

MATTHEW GARGUILO, 25, of 67 Tawny Thrush Road, Naugatuck, was charged Aug. 24 with possession of controlled substance: narcotics and reckless driving.

Police reported on Aug. 24 at approximately 10:28 p.m. an officer conducted a motor vehicle investigation on Simsberry Road. Garguilo was traveling at a high rate of speed while children were in the road, police reported. During the investigation, police reported, Garguilo was found to be in possession of heroin. Garguilo was given a court date of Sept. 5 to appear at Waterbury Superior court and released on a total $3,000 surety bond.

ALEXANDER ROSADO, 23, of 65 Oak St., Naugatuck, was charged Aug. 25 with driving under the influence and traveling unreasonably fast.

Police reported on Aug. 25 at approximately 2:31 a.m. the officer conducted a motor vehicle investigation on South Main Street. During the investigation, police reported, it was determined Rosado was operating under the influence of alcohol. Rosado was given a court date of Sept. 5 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $500 non-surety bond.

CAROL VOLAGE, 58, of 76 Pleasant Ave., Naugatuck, was charged Aug. 25 with driving under the influence and failure to drive upon right.

Police reported on Aug. 25 at approximately 2:37 a.m. the officer conducted a motor vehicle investigation on Cherry Street. During the investigation, police reported, it was determined Volage was operating under the influence of alcohol. Volage was given a court date of Sept. 5 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $500.00 non-surety bond.

ANNETTE MERRIAM, 55, of 53 Conrad St., Naugatuck, was charged Aug. 25 with driving under the influence and failure to in proper lane.

Police reported on Aug. 25 at approximately 1:26 p.m. an officer responded to Platts Mill Road for a motor vehicle accident. During the investigation, police reported, it was determined Merriam was operating under the influence of alcohol. Merriam was given a court date of Sept. 5 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $500 non-surety bond.
