Police-badgeThe Naugatuck Police Department reported the following arrests:

NICHOLAS RIZZIO, 43, of 99 Lantern Park Drive, Naugatuck, was charged March 1 with interfering with an officer, assault on public safety/emergency personnel, threatening, disorderly conduct and interfering with an emergency call.

Police reported on March 1 Rizzio was arrested on two active arrest warrants. The warrants were for a domestic disturbance between boyfriend and girlfriend that occurred on Feb. 25, 2013. Prior to the officers’ arrival Rizzio caused a laceration to his left wrist, police reported. When the officers were talking with Rizzio he began to actively fight with the officers. Rizzio punched one of the officers in the face and began to push and wrestle with the officers, police reported. During the domestic disturbance, police reported, Rizzio picked up a knife and pointed it at the victim. Police reported he took the phone out of the victim’s hand and tried to break it when she attempted to call the police. Rizzio was given a court date of March 4 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a total $30,000 surety bond.

JOHN CHARLAND, 28, of 185 Millville Ave., Naugatuck, was charged March 1 with possession of controlled substance, narcotic kept only in original container, possession of drug paraphernalia and non-student in possession of drugs near a school, high school or day care.

Police reported on March 1 at approximately 6 p.m. an officer conducted a motor vehicle investigation on Rubber Avenue. During the investigation, police reported, Charland was found to be in possession of a pill (Morphine Sulfate), heroin and a syringe. Charland was given a court date of March 13 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $1,000 non-surety bond.

KYLE BASTA, 26, of 1081 New Haven Road, Naugatuck, was charged March 2 with disorderly conduct.

Police reported on March 2 at approximately 11:03 a.m. officers were dispatched to 1081 New Haven Road 7G for a domestic disturbance between mother and son. During an argument, police reported, Basta knocked items off a table and knocked over a chair. Basta spit at the victim and pushed her to the floor, police reported. Basta was given a court date of March 4 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $2,500 non-surety bond.

HEATHER FORD, 22, of 20 Irving St., Naugatuck, was charged March 2 with possession of controlled substance: less than four ounces of marijuana.

Police reported on March 2 at 2:23 p.m. officers responded to Scott Street and Cherry Street for a motor vehicle accident. During the investigation, police reported, it was determined Ford was in possession of 0.53 ounces of marijuana. Ford was given a court date of March 13 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $1,000 non-surety bond.
