NAUGATUCK — Peter D. LaCharity, 85, passed away on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was husband of Marta (Arszyla) LaCharity.

Peter was born in Valley Forge, Pa. on June 17, 1928, son of late Daniel and Viola LaCharity. He was a longtime Naugatuck resident, and he retired from the Naugatuck Street Department. Pete played semi pro basketball in Bridgeport in his younger years. He enjoyed playing softball in the Naugatuck Twilight League and golf at Hop Brook. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, and he was an avid Yankee fan. His favorite time was Sunday morning breakfast with his family.

Besides his wife of 62 years, he leaves his three sons, Bruce LaCharity and his wife Pam of Naugatuck, Paul LaCharity and his wife Shirley of Waterbury, and Peter LaCharity and his wife Leslie of Southbury; his four daughters, Susan Moss and her husband Bob of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Nancy Sumoski and her husband Mark of Newington, Gail Adamaitis and her husband Ray of Waterbury, and Christine Winslow and her husband Keith of Naugatuck; 12 grandchildren, Kerry and Eric LaCharity, Bobby and Jesse Moss, Danielle Sumoski, Jason Nelson, Melissa and Christian LaCharity, Noah and Saige Winslow, Bobby Plourde, Nicole Barry; six great-grandchildren, Kevin, JR, Bobby, Brielle, Ben and Makena. He was predeceased by his grandson Kevin Demers.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
