BEACON FALLS — Mrs. Lois J. (Beard) Ehler, 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Sunday morning Feb. 16, 2014 at Meridian Manor in Waterbury. She was the widow of Irwin (Bill) Ehler, who passed away on Jan. 5, 2008 in Santee, S.C.

Lois was born in West Haven on April 24, 1926 to Lester Beard and Mabel (Patterson) (Beard) Von Dreele. The step-daughter to Alphonso VonDreele from a very young age, he was her daddy. She enjoyed crocheting, stamp collecting, gardening and jigsaw puzzles. She loved watching the birds at their feeders.

Bill was born in West Haven on Nov. 4, 1922 to Irwin Ehler and Isabelle (Blake) (Ehler) Loomis. Together with Lois they belonged to the Valley Yacht Club, spending numerous vacations/weekends in Port Jefferson, N.Y. He did the fishing and she cleaned the fish.

Residing in Shelton and Seymour, Lois and Bill were the managers of the Sunnyside Mobilehome Park in Shelton from the early ’50s to the mid-’90s. She also worked part-time as a waitress for Rosa Mina’s in Shelton. Having retired to Santee, S.C., Lois remained there after Bill’s passing. After being diagnosed with early dementia she returned to Connecticut in 2012.

Lois and Bill are survived by their daughter and son-in-law Joanne and Jay Wilson of Beacon Falls with whom Lois lived; son, Bill and his wife Linda of Shelton; son, David of Ansonia; and son, Fred and his wife Rusty of St. Matthew, S,C., as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, nieces and nephews. They are also survived by Bill’s brother and sister-in-law Duke and Emily Ehler of Essex Jct.,
Vt.; their godson Wyatt Giardino of Hamden; and Peggy Weatherford, their special caregiver while living in Santee, S.C.

Lois and Bill were predeceased in 2004 by their daughter, Sharon J. Hunt and her husband Howie of St. Matthew, S.C. (formerly Seymour); Lois’ sisters, Ethel (Clarence) Nelson and Shirley (Charles) Anthony and her brother Edwin (Marjorie) Beard.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to Beacon Falls nurse Sue Mis for her weekly visits to check up on Lois and assist the family; also the entire staff at Day Break Adult Day Care and Meridian Manor both of Waterbury for the care and compassion extended to her.

All services are private. At a later date Bill and Lois’ cremains will be buried together in the family plot in West Haven. Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect has assisted the family with all arrangements.
