NAUGATUCK — Albertina (Nata) Dematos, 65, of Naugatuck, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving children and family on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at Beacon Brook Health Center after a long illness.
Albertina was born in Torreira, Murtosa, Portugal on March 23, 1948, a daughter of Maria R. (Rebelo) Nata and the late Francisco A. Nata. She was a longtime Naugatuck resident and was a former co-owner of New England Bakery. She was a member of the Naugatuck Senior Center and enjoyed crocheting. She loved spending time with her family and loving grandchildren.
Besides her mother of Naugatuck, she leaves her sons, Joe DeMatos of Naugatuck, Michael Dematos and his wife Elizabeth of Waterbury; her daughter, Paula Michele Tavares and her husband Americo of Naugatuck; her brother, Francisco Nata and his wife Doris of Plymouth; her sisters, Maria Fonseca, Connie Chipelo and her husband John, Ana Fallon and her husband James, Linda Moutinho and her husband Val, all of Naugatuck; her grandchildren, Adam, Briana, and Austin Tavares; several nieces and nephews; and her former husband, who remained a valued friend, partner, and caregiver, Jose Dematos of Naugatuck. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Agostinho Fonseca.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Beacon Brook as well as VITAS Hospice for their compassionate care.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 20 at noon at St. Mary Church, 338 North Main St., Naugatuck. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church at 11:45 a.m. Burial will be at the family’s convenience. There are no calling hours. The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck has been entrusted with her arrangements.
