WOODBURY — Mr. Robert W. Smith, of Woodbury, passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 at his home. He was the husband of the late Jeanne (Skiff) Smith.

Mr. Smith was born in Waterbury, Aug. 22, 1924, a son of the late William and Anna (Gans) Smith and had worked for many years in the rubber and plastics industry in sales and marketing.

Mr. Smith was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WWII and was an avid pilot and former squadron commander in the Civil Air Patrol. He was a former member and past president of the Sigma Six Flying Club, based at Oxford Airport, and a longtime member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He was active for several years in therapy dog visits to hospitals and nursing homes.

He leaves a daughter, Alison Whitaker of St. Augustine, Fla., and a sister, Virginia Marano of Waterbury. He was predeceased by a son, Carter A. Smith.

Burial will be in new North Cemetery, Woodbury in the spring. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St., is assisting with the arrangements.
