BEACON FALLS — Dorothy (McCarthy) Dojny, 95, known to many as “Nanny,” passed away on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013 at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She was the widow of Matthew Dojny.
Dorothy was born in Ansonia on Jan. 24, 1918, daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Mulligan) McCarthy. Dorothy worked at the Carmody Insurance in Ansonia, and later became the owner. She worked for over 20 years in the business. Dorothy was a great friend to many, and loved by the many children that she helped to nurture through her over 20 years of volunteering at the former St. Hedwig’s School in Union City. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed many travels and trips, and especially loved her many years of memories in Atlantic City. She was an avid baker and reader.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Carol Doiron and partner, Diana Lee of Naugatuck; her granddaughters, Sue Foley and husband Craig Foley of Danbury, and Beth Doiron and her husband David Carter of Salem, Mass.; and her great-grandchildren, Heather Queiroga of Agawam, Mass., and Ezekiel Carter of Salem, Mass.
The family of Dorothy would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and Aurora Senior Living (at Buck’s Hill) for their great care.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church, 25 Maple Ave., Beacon Falls. Family and friends are asked to meet at the church at 9:45 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck has been entrusted with her arrangements.
