Obituary: Bess Weinstein Lander
Bess was predeceased by husbands, Jack Weinstein and Ernest Lander, and son, Howard Arthur Weinstein.She leaves a beloved sister, Lottie Tucker of Las Vegas, Nev.,, and children Marianne Silverman of Santa Clarita, Calif., Joyce Grumer and husband, Harry, and Phyllis Garrison of Las Vegas, Nev., David Weinstein of Easton, Md., and Harriet Sisbarro and husband, Ron, of Naugatuck. She also leaves 13 beloved grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Bess was a member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom in Bridgeport. She received a “Distinguished Service Award” for leadership for her 15 years of service as president of her Women’s American O.R.T. group. She volunteered for the Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield as a “transporter,” wheeling people from one department to another, and was a dedicated “knitter” of hats, helmets and slippers for homeless children and baby caps for infants at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. Bess had a long career as a travel agent at Barnum Travel Bureau in Bridgeport and Fairfield. She was a warm and loving individual who will be missed by all who knew her.
Bess’s family would like to thank Marge Gladstone, for the care she provided over the last four years, in addition to all Beacon Brook and Hospice VNA staff.
Services will be held at the Abraham L. Green & Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road, Fairfield, on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 at 10 a.m.
