NAUGATUCK — Ferdinand H. Schrag, 93, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at Beacon Brook Health Center. He believed that c’est le ton qui fait la musique, how you say something is as important as what you say, and led his life that way.

Fred, as he preferred to be called, was born on April 1, 1919 in Bruchsal, Germany. His father Ludwig passed away when he was very young. Fred was educated at Herne Bay College in England. He and his mother Anne, stepfather Frederick and brother Rolf immigrated to the United States in 1940.

He was married to Frieda (Field) for over 25 years, until her death, and they had a son, Steven who resides in Waterbury with his wife Doreen Del Bianco. He was married to Anne (Burtaine) for over 29 years, until her death. Anne had two children from a previous marriage, Llyod Burtaine who resides in Virginia with his wife Debbie, and Freda Weisbard who resides in Florida with her husband Bruce. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Aaron Schrag, Adam Burtaine and Jackie Burtaine.

Fred worked at Prudential Insurance Company for almost 25 years in Maryland and won multiple sales awards for his work. He loved classical music, dinner theatre, dining out, electronic equipment, playing cards and Rummikub. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, talking about current events and contributing to liberal political causes that he cared about.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave., with Rabbi Eric Silver officiating. His funeral and internment was in Menorah Gardens and Funeral Chapels in Southwest Ranches, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut Foundation, 330 Main St., Fl. 1, Hartford, CT 06106-1851.
