BRISTOL, R.I. — James L. Allen, 84, died unexpectedly on Dec. 3, 2012. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital from the Veterans Home in Bristol, R.I. where he resided after living with his family in Tiverton, R.I. He was the husband of Viola (Broome) Allen.

Mr. Allen was born in Waterbury on Feb. 24, 1928, the son of the late Lawrence Gilbert and Alice (Gibbons) Allen. He grew up in Providence, R.I. where Mr. Allen graduated from Lasalle Academy and Bryant College. He was a sales representative for U.S. Rubber Co. where he covered the New England States and Globe Mfg. Co. of Fall River, Mass. where he covered the southern states. He was transferred from North Carolina back to Fall River, Mass. as their purchasing agent. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Naugatuck. He was a U.S. Army veteran during WWII having served in Korea. He was a decorated soldier having received the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal Japan.

Besides his wife, Mr. Allen is survived by three daughters, Tia A. Reck, Elizabeth C. Allen, Julia Anne Allen; a son, James Lawrence Allen, Jr. and six grandchildren.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at 10:15 a.m. from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck, for a mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial with full military honors will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15 from 9 to 10 a.m.
