FREDERICK, Md. — E. Michael August, 54, of Southbury and Frederick, Md., died suddenly on Nov. 21, 2012 in Ellicott City, Md.

He was born on July 16, 1958 to the late Marvin and Betty August in Illinois. He was raised in Maryland, graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1976, George Washington University in 1980 with a degree in chemistry, and the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1985 with a PhD in biochemistry. Michael completed a post doctoral fellowship at Yale University, and was employed by the National Cancer Institute, Boerhinger Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, and two biotechnology companies during his career. He was most recently employed as a research scientist at the National Cancer Institute in Frederick, Md.

He leaves his son and daughter, Cameron and Micaela August; son-in-law Michael Habib; special friend, Doris Lefkowitz; stepmother, Jane August; former wives Elizabeth August and Lori Patnaude, and many friends.

He was predeceased by his parents and maternal grandmother, Mildred Groves.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at 6 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.
