Victor Anthony Zollo Sr.

BEACON FALLS — Victor Anthony Zollo, Sr., 94, of Beacon Falls, and Winter Park, Fla., died on Sept. 29, 2012 at the Florida home of his son, Victor Anthony Zollo, Jr. and devoted daughter-in-law, Jacquelynn Zollo. He passed away as he lived: with peaceful grace and dignity.

Victor was born in Beacon Falls in 1917 to Albert and Vincenzina Cretella Zollo and is predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Mary Virginia Weidenhamer Zollo.

Born in Beacon Falls, Victor was raised in a large family of 10 siblings. During World War II, he proudly worked at Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation helping to manufacture the Corsair fighter jet. Following the war, Victor returned to Beacon Falls to work at the Homer D. Bronson Company for 39 years. He loved horse racing, the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team and walking the hills of Beacon Falls, especially in the fall. Victor was a devout communicant of Saint Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Beacon Falls. Victor moved to Florida four years ago. During that time, he was lovingly cared for by Jacquelynn as well as his special caretakers, Paul and Ruthie.

In addition to his son and daughter-in-law, Victor and Jacquelynn, Victor is survived by his daughter, Madelyne and husband, George David Pope of Scituate, Mass. He is also survived by four granddaughters, Catherine Mary and husband Benjamin Smith of Hingham, Mass., Theresa Ann Pope of New York City, Elizabeth Irene and husband Jeffrey Stomper of Evanston, Ill., and Madelyne Mary Zollo of New York City. Victor was the proud great-grandfather of Patrick Connor Smith and Nicholas Finn Smith. Victor also leaves his dear sister, May Cancellaro of Naugatuck, and his brother, Richard Zollo of Port St. Lucie, Fla. In addition, Victor is survived by two sisters-in-law, Anna and Toni and the loving nieces and nephews of the Zollo Family as well as lifelong friends.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck to St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Beacon Falls honoring his request Victor will be escorted by his four granddaughters for a mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.
