Obituary: Thomas Russell

NAUGATUCK — Mr. Thomas “Rusty” Russell, 50, passed away on Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 at Waterbury Hospital. Rusty died of a heart attack.

Rusty was born on July 14, 1962 in New Rochelle, N.Y., and grew up in Brookfield. He lived in Naugatuck for the past 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Beryl Russell; his daughter, Jessica Russell, 22, who held his heart from the moment she was born. He is also survived by his mother, Patricia Russell Playford and her husband Norman Playford of Fort Pierce, Fla.; two sisters, Susan Lopes, Christine Hamed and her husband Rich; a brother John Russell. He also leaves his mother-in-law, Mary Ann Hovey, three brothers-in-law, Gregg Hovey and his wife Donna, Peter Hovey and his wife Ivone, Edward Hovey and his wife Shirley. He had many nieces and nephews — all of whom meant the world to Rusty.

He was predeceased by his father Thomas F. Russell.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, Sept. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church at 10:15 a.m. Burial will be held at a later date. Calling hours will be held at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
