Obituary: Joseph Sciarretta

NAUGATUCK — Mr. Joseph Sciarretta, 77, of Naugatuck passed away at the Glendale Center on Friday, June 22, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Mary (Scalo) Sciarretta.

Joe was born in Waterbury on March 24, 1935 son of the late Julius and Margaret (Martino) Sciarretta. He honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years and the U.S. Army for two years. He was employed at Superior Steel Products/Anchor Lamina for 36 years as a skilled machine operator until he retired. After his retirement he was a crossing guard at Andrew Avenue School for the past 13 years.

He was an avid golfer and member of the Hop Brook Golf Course, Western Hills, East Mountain and various clubs around Connecticut. He enjoyed radio controlled air planes and was a member of the Nutmeg Flyers Club. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife. He was a long time communicant of St. Vincent Ferrer Church.

Besides his wife Mary of 28 years, he leaves a son, Joseph Sciarretta Jr. of Naugatuck; a sister, Margaret Perillo and her husband Ralph of Waterbury; an aunt, Louise Mrozinski and her husband Joe of Waterbury; his mother-in-law, Philomena Scalo of Florida. He also leaves several cousins, nieces, nephews, and loving family in Florida.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 25, at 8:45 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway to St. Vincent Ferrer Church in Naugatuck for a mass at 10 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held Sunday, 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
