Obituary: Thomas John Vaiskauckas

NAUGATUCK — Thomas John Vaiskauckas, 64, died peacefully on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at VITAS Innovative Hospice Care Unit of St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. Born in Waterbury on April 6 1947, he was the son of the late John and Amelia Vaiskauckas.

Tom grew up in “The Vill” in Waterbury, graduated in 1965 from Wilby High School, then went on to Post University and the University of New Haven. His career in banking and collections started at Affiliated Collection Bureau in Bridgeport in 1973. He worked for Mechanics & Farmers Savings Bank, Lafayette American Bank, Clayton National Inc. and most recently as a property manager for Imaginers, Inc. out of the Seymour office.

Tom had many passions, the strongest and best being golf. Tom was a member and long time player at Hop Brook Golf Course in Naugatuck along with many other courses in the state. He relaxed by puttering with his golf clubs, making and repairing golf clubs for family and friends. Additionally, Tom was an avid NASCAR fan, building model airplanes, all music of the 50s with his favorite being the Beach Boys.

He is survived by his deeply loved companion, Karen Brylle; his step-children, Leslie Walsh and her fiancée John Ziobo of Bridgeport, Sean Walsh of Seymour; grandchildren Jennifer Sierzant, Stephanie and Thomas Walsh; great-grandchildren Geovanny Joseph and Rachel and his treasured poodle Chloe.

He was predeceased in 1998 by his wife, Delores (Walsh) Vaiskauckas.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck. Friends are asked to meet at the church at 9:45 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, East Main Street, Waterbury. Calling hours will be held at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck on Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
