Ruth was the only child of Raymond and Eleanor Melbourne. She was born in Naugatuck, on July 10, 1918. She married Carl Edward Larson on June 12, 1943. They spent 61 years together until his death in January 2005. She then moved to Binghamton, N.Y. in September 2006 to be closer to her daughter’s family.

After graduating from Naugatuck High School in the class of 1935, Ruth worked as a secretary in the office of Risdon Manufacturing Co. She met her husband “Eddie” there. After several years as a homemaker, she returned to work at the Colonial Bank and Trust in Naugatuck where she eventually became secretary to the president of the bank. She retired in 1984.

She was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Naugatuck. She was well-known for her baked goods at the Lenten bake sales and always worked at the peach cobbler booth at the annual church fair. Ruth was also active in the Women’s Club, serving on several committees throughout the years. Ruth and Eddie enjoyed many years of bowling, golfing, winter vacations to tropical islands, and entertaining friends and family. Ruth will be remembered by all who knew her as a “lady” in the truest sense of the word and a person of kindness and grace.
