THOMASTON – Mrs. Catherine M. (Smotas) Rykoski St. Denis, 91, of Grove Street, Thomaston, passed away at her home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Joseph A. St. Denis and the widow of Theodore P. Rykoski.

Mrs. St. Denis was born in Freehold, NJ on May 23, 1919, a daughter of the late Peter and Anna Smotas. She was a longtime Naugatuck resident before moving to Thomaston. She retired after many years from the Footwear Division of Uniroyal, Inc. She volunteered at Waterbury Hospital and Glendale Health Center for many years. She was a communicant of St. Thomas Church.

Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Theodore “Ted” A. Rykoski and his wife Nicole of Waterbury; two daughters, Kathleen Scranton and her husband Richard of Needham, MA, Marcia Blinstrubas and her husband Thomas of Waterbury; two step-sons, Michael St. Denis and his wife Meg of Simsbury, Thomas St. Denis and his wife Terri of Simsbury; a step-daughter, Diane Tignor and her husband Thomas of Watertown; nine grandchildren, Theodore and Carl Rykoski, Jennifer Bowers, Heather Feliz, Jaimie Scranton Pomerantz, Jessica Scranton, T.J. Blinstrubas, Betsy McMahon, and Joseph Blinstrubas III; nine great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday November 27 at 9am from the Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High Street, Thomaston to St. Thomas Church, 19 Electric Avenue, Thomaston for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7pm.
