Candidate profile: Scott Slauson
Board of Education candidate
Why are you running for this position?
“I want to serve my community as my wife and I have two children in the Naugatuck school system. I would like to be proactive in decisions for their education.”
Have you held public office in the past? If so, what positions and when?
“I have not held public office in the past, but I have held several positions in national, state and local levels for clubs and organizations that required me to be involved in the decision making process for that particular organization. Some of these organizations are the Marines Corps League, American Legion, Porsche Club of America.”
What experience makes you qualified for this position?
“I have managed and run companies that have increased in productivity and earnings. My military (USMC) and technical experiences in which I am considered an expert in have taught me how to analyze and figure out proper decisions based on the data at hand. I believe that my knowledge in these areas would be an attribute for keeping the district’s budget in balance. I will also be proactive in making decisions to the consideration and needs of the children, the teachers and administrators.”
If elected, what are your priorities and goals?
“My priority is to serve the Borough of Naugatuck as a member of the Board of Education. While I may be new to a public office position, I am not new to volunteering my time and knowledge to many different clubs and organizations. My goal is to make sure our children receive the best education possible from the Borough of Naugatuck, in which I believe we can outshine all of the other school districts.”
