NAUGATUCK — Lucille T. (Brault) Letts of Naugatuck passed away Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017, after her brave journey with cancer. She was the widow of John E. Letts, Sr., the former mayor of Naugatuck. Lucille was born in Boston, Mass., on Dec. 10, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Napoleon and Emelia (Tessier) Brault.

Lucille was the co-founder of the Naugatuck YMCA Nursery School and was a Eucharistic Minister. She was a board member of the St. Francis School Foundation and the United Way of Naugatuck & Beacon Falls.

Lucille is survived by her four sons and one daughter; John E. Jr., Kevin (Kathy), and Keith (Sharon) all of Naugatuck; Jim of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Judith “Judy” Letts Green of Rocky Hill; 12 grandchildren, John Letts III (fiancé Lauren Vagnini), Brianne Forcucci (Mike), Holly Bevin, Krissy Hunsinger (Jon), Michael Letts, Vincent and Shawn Green, Audrey and Garrison Letts, Amanda Tiscia (Ryan), Monica and Kyle Hartis (Kristen); five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her sister, Terry Brown of Lynn, Mass., and her brother, Edward Brault of California.

Known for her satirical wit, Lucille was an avid bridge player, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles in pen, and baked “the best sour cream coffee cake.” Her greatest joys were her family, serving as Naugatuck’s “first lady,” and seeing former nursery school students who still referred to her as “Miss Lucille.”

Special thanks to Seasons Hospice, Visiting Angels, Glendale Rehab, St. Mary’s Hospital, and all her caregivers.

A service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to honor Lucille’s memory may be made to the United Way of Naugatuck & Beacon Falls, Inc., PO Box 209, Naugatuck, CT 06770.
