NAUGATUCK — Mrs. Ruth E. Braziel, 92, of Naugatuck, beloved wife of the late William F. Braziel Sr., died Friday May 12, 2017, peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Braziel was born in Waterbury on April 4, 1925, daughter of the late Walter and Della (Crose) Crandall. Ruth was employed by the Naugatuck Board of Education as school lunch director until her retirement. She was selflessly involved in the community, serving twice as president of AOH, a member of the Democratic Town Committee, and performing countless marriages as justice of the peace. As an active member of numerous social organizations, including the Naugatuck Senior Center, she donated her unforgettable knitting crafts. In her later years, she spent quality time smiling and laughing with those she loved, teaching her knitting and cooking skills. She touched the hearts of everything and everyone she loved with joy.

Ruth is survived by her two sons, William F. Braziel Jr. and his wife, Terri, of Newtown, James W. Braziel and his wife, Marie, of Naugatuck; three daughters, Evelyn R. Palmer and her husband, Roy, of Steuben, Maine, Della Hicks and her husband, Roddy, of Marlborough, and Lois E. Braziel of Naugatuck; a sister, Joan Pavlik of Prospect, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held on Thursday evening from 4 to 7 p.m.
