NAUGATUCK — Robert T. Newhart, 76, the widower of Sarah (Brown) Newhart, died peacefully on May 10, 2017 in the VITAS Innovative Care Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital with loving family by his side.

Robert was born July 29, 1940 in Waterbury, a son of the late Robert T. and Vera (Tatro) Newhart, and grew up in Middlebury. He lived in Tully, N.Y. for 25 years and in Naugatuck for the past two years. Robert was a U. S. Army veteran and was a former employee of New England Masonry, having worked as a roofer. Robert enjoyed spending time walking his dog.

Robert is survived by his son, Richard Newhart; his daughter, Kimberly Best and her husband, Kyle; his grandchildren, Crystal Deller and her husband, Nate, Jason Best and James Newhart; his great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Baron Deller; his sisters, Barbara Paradis, Dawn Zontok and Aloha Gaylord and her husband, George; his step-children, Robert Brown and his wife, Marie, Rodney Brown and his wife, Ann, Gary Brown, Nina Isabell and her husband, Edmond, and Lynn Kocher; his nephew and buddy, Joe Zontok, and many other nephews and nieces. Robert was predeceased by his brothers, Gary and Gayle Newhart.

Calling hours will be Monday, May 15, 2017 from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a service at 6 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. Burial will be private.
