Philip DePoala

NAUGATUCK — Philip DePoala, 89, husband of the late Marcella (McCurry) DePoala, passed away at his home on Friday, May 19, 2017.

He was born in Ansonia, Oct. 28, 1927, son of the late Samuel and Josephine (Laforte) DePoala. Phil was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and received the World War II Victory Medal.

He was faithful parishioner of St. Vincent Ferrer Church. The best times were his quiet moments at Lords of Litchfield. He was an avid New York Yankee fan. He loved his McDonald’s milkshakes and visiting the Rhode Island beaches with his family.

Mr. DePoala leaves behind his loving family, his daughters, Christina Warner and her husband, Steve, Mary Ann Rosenberg and her husband, Richard, Phylis Walker and her husband, Robert, and Robin Gambacini and her husband, Craig; and his son, Valentino DePoala. He also leaves behind several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; his brother, Sammy DiPoalo and his wife, Millie; his sister, Rose Cocommo and her companion, Bruce Kale; and his sister-in-law, Jo Ann DiPoalo. Phil was predeceased by his son, Philip DePoala; his brothers, Jimmy DiPoalo and Anthony DiPoalo; and sister, Josephine Pacella.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 9 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, to St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will meet at 6 p.m.
