Obituary: Andrew J. Sytnik

NAUGATUCK — Andrew J. “Andy” Sytnik, 75, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016 at Meridian Manor in Waterbury.

Andy was born on Aug. 22, 1941 in Wilkes Barre, Pa., a son of the late Andrew and Susan (Maravich) Sytnik, and had lived in Naugatuck for most of his life. Andy worked for many years at the Risdon Manufacturing Company in Naugatuck. Andy enjoyed sports and was an avid Boston Red Sox Fan.

Andy is survived by his sister, Ann Davis of Damascus, Md.; his nieces, Susan Barabasz of Naugatuck, Clara Ann Gruszkiewicz of Manchester, and Joanne Comerford of Las Vegas, Nev.; his nephews, Bernard and Vincent Gruszkiewicz of Naugatuck, Douglas Swift of West Friendship, Md., and Ken Gruszkiewicz of Garland, Texas, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, Andy was predeceased by his brothers, Henry Sytnik and Joseph Sytnik, and his sisters, Frances Sytnik, Cookie Doback, Rosemary Gruszkiewicz and Irene Mullins.

Andy’s family would like to thank the staff of Meridian Manor and VITAS for the extraordinary care and support they gave to Andy. They would also like to thank the many Naugatuck residents who befriended Andy over the years, especially by providing his transportation all around our town.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Inurnment will follow in St. James Cemetery Columbarium, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.
