PROSPECT — An SUV ended up completely submerged in a pond last Friday night.
Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Chief William Lauber said the SUV crashed into a pond off of Salem Road just after 9 p.m. May 5.
Lauber, who lives across the street from the pond, said he was home when he heard tires screeching.
“There wasn’t a crash but it was loud enough to concern me,” Lauber said.
Lauber said when he went to investigate he saw a Chevy Blazer sunk into the water with only the roof showing. By the time he reached the SUV, Lauber said, the driver had got himself out and was standing next to the pond.
“He was not injured other than being shaken up,” Lauber said.
Firefighters and police officers arrived on the scene shortly after the crash, Lauber said.
Firefighters in cold water suits helped a tow truck pull the vehicle out of the pond, Lauber said. The extraction took about an hour, he said.
The vehicle was totaled, Lauber said, but no oil or gas leaked from the SUV into the pond.
Lauber referred questions regarding details of the accident to police. The accident report wasn’t finalized as of this post, according to the Connecticut State Police public information office.
