NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck-Beacon Falls Campership Fund is seeking donations.

The fund, which is separate from the Waterbury Campership Fund, is used to send students from Naugatuck and Beacon Falls to camp over the summer.

The fund was started in the 1970s by Robert Sullivan, a former principal at Hop Brook Elementary School in Naugatuck. Coleen Grommisch is going into her fourth year as executive director.

Depending on donations and allocations from the United Way of Naugatuck and Beacon Falls, the fund sends between 75 and 100 children to camp each summer. The majority of campers attend camp at the Naugatuck YMCA due to parent request. Others attend Camp Mataucha in Watertown, the Recreation Camp in Derby, Camp Connri and the Salvation Army Camp in Ashford. Last year, five children attended Hidden Acres Therapeutic Riding Center in Naugatuck. Referrals for campers are made through the school system.

Donations can be made to Naugatuck-Beacon Falls Campership Fund, C/O Marylou Cunningham, Ion Bank, P.O. Box 1370, Naugatuck, CT 06770.
