NAUGAUCK — The borough will soon have its own portable stage for festivals.

The Board of Mayor and Burgesses last week approved buying a used, 28-foot-by-32-foot portable stage and stage cover for $22,400 from the East Hartford-based Unlimited Party and Rental.

Mayor N. Warren “Pete” Hess said the borough will pay for the stage from recording fees collected in Town Hall.

The borough wants the stage to use at festivals instead of renting a stage. Assistant to the Director of Public Works Sandra Lucas-Ribeiro said the borough paid $6,000 to rent a stage for a festival in September.

Lucas-Ribeiro said the borough also received a price of $29,831 for a 20-foot-by-16-foot stage and cover from the California-based The Stage Depot.

Although the stage from Unlimited Party and Rental is used, the company is providing new nuts, bolts and braces, Lucas-Ribeiro said.

“So the used part is really just the decking and legs. Other than that everything else is going to be ordered new,” Lucas-Ribeiro said.

The stage is expected to be used during the borough’s Downtown Spring Festival on May 20. Lucas-Ribeiro said the company is willing to send people out to instruct the borough on how to put the stage together.
