NAUGATUCK — An intruder drill planned for this morning at Naugatuck High School never got going as police received an unplanned alarm for an intruder in the school’s child care unit.

Police were getting ready to run the drill, which was supposed to start at 10:40 a.m., when they received the alarm that was not part of the drill at 10:15 a.m., police said in a press release. The school was placed in lockdown as officers cleared the building and investigated the alarm.

Police said the intruder threat ended up being a false alarm, and the lockdown was lifted at about 10:55 a.m. Students returned to their normal school day, and the planned drill was cancelled, police said.

Superintendent of Schools Sharon Locke said school officials and police were discussing what happened and the reaction to the alarm to identify areas they did well and where they need to improve.
