NAUGATUCK — Work originally scheduled for this weekend that would have closed the Route 68 bridge has been postponed, the state Department of Transportation announced.

The bridge is undergoing a $12.8 million rehabilitation project, which is expected to continue until November 2018.

The next stage of the project includes paving the newly installed concrete deck on the north side of the bridge and switching traffic onto that side, according to the DOT. The south side of the bridge, where traffic currently travels, will then be closed for demolition and replacement.

This work is now tentatively planned for next weekend and expected to close the bridge, which connects Bridge Street to Prospect Street, from 8 p.m. on April 28 through 5 a.m. on May 1.

Editor’s note: The April 21 edition of the Citizen’s News reported the Route 68 bridge was scheduled to be closed April 21 through April 24. The state Department of Transportation announced after press time that the work was postponed.
