Louis R. Monnerat Sr.

WOLCOTT — Louis R. Monnerat, Sr., 101, husband of the late Jean (Grochowski) Monnerat, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 23, 2017.

Mr. Monnerat was born in Waterbury on Dec. 23, 1915, son of the late Joseph and Albertine (Bernier) Monnerat. A resident of Wolcott since 1955, he retired from Scovill Manufacturing after 44 years of service. He was very active with several local Boy Scout troops and enjoyed many events at Camp Mattatuck. As a teenager, Louis had a friend that was a veteran of the Civil War and also had the privilege of meeting Amelia Earhart. He was an avid HAM radio enthusiast, and was recognized by the Red Cross for his service during the Flood of 1955. He also enjoyed clamming and spending time on Cape Cod with his family.

Louis is survived by his children, Louis R. Monnerat, Jr. of Wolcott, Mary Jean Monnerat of Terryville, and Carol Monnerat of Branford; his seven grandchildren; his three-great grandchildren; his brother, Edward Monnerat of Waterbury; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Monnerat and his sister, Rita (Monnerat) Foley.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 29 2017 at 10:15 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, to St. Hedwig’s Church, 32 Golden Hill St., Naugatuck for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Platt Road, Watertown. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Mattatuck, 221 Mt. Tobe Road, Plymouth, CT 06782.
