Gerald J. Murphy Jr.

PROSPECT — Dr. Gerald J. Murphy, Jr., 78, of Prospect, previously of Easton, beloved husband of Catherine Iannotti Murphy, passed away peacefully on Feb. 18, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bridgeport on Aug. 19, 1938, he was a son of Rose Buckmir Murphy of Bridgeport and the late Gerald J. Murphy Sr.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Dr. Murphy was a graduate of the Fairfield Preparatory School, Fairfield University and the New Jersey School of Medicine and Dentistry, Class of 1963. Dr. Gerald had his own dentistry practice in Bridgeport and Fairfield for over 40 years, until his retirement in 2011. He was a member of the CSDA, Knights of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians, St. John’s University’s Red White Club, Fairfield Fish & Game, and he volunteered his services to the Missionaries of Charity in Bridgeport for over 20 years. But above all of these things, Gerald was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his granddaughters, fly fishing in Jackson Hole, watching St. John’s college basketball games, travelling to Italy and always enjoyed picking the best wine for his family and friends. He had a very kind heart and quick wit and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his beloved wife of 53 years, Catherine, and his mother, survivors include two loving daughters, Allyson Murphy-Brown and her husband, Bill, of Newbury, N.H. and Kimberley A. Weaver and her husband, Andrew, of Plantsville; two cherished granddaughters, Abigail and Charlene Weaver; two brothers, Robert Murphy of North Carlonia, and Kevin Murphy of Bridgeport; a sister, Rose Marie Mahar of Florida, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Dennis Murphy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, Trumbull.
