PROSPECT — The town is offering a warm way to get rid of Christmas trees.

Prospect will host a Christmas tree burning Jan. 15 at 5 p.m. on Center Street, across from the police department.

During the bonfire, members of the Volunteer Fire Department of Prospect will serve hot chocolate and warm apple cider. Firefighters will also demonstrate how fast a dry tree will catch fire.

Mayor Robert Chatfield asked that anyone attending the event park along Center Street and not along Route 69. There will not be an entrance to the field where the bonfire will take place along Route 69, he said.

Residents can drop their Christmas tree off at the field at any time before the fire or contact Woodland Regional High School’s Best Buddies chapter to pick up the tree. Members of the Best Buddies will pick up trees on Saturday for a $10 donation. For more information, call 203-525-7701.

Chatfield said the town use to host a Christmas tree burning bonfire for about 25 years before stopping 10 years ago. The rain date is Jan. 22.
