BEACON FALLS — Beacon Falls will become a Blue Star town later this year.

The Board of Selectmen this month approved the placement of a Blue Star Memorial Marker at Veterans Park on North Main Street.

The Blue Star program, which is overseen by the National Garden Clubs, Inc., honors those who served in every branch of the armed forces.

The Blue Star Program stipulates the town has to have a garden club that will take care of the area, First Selectman Christopher Bielik said. The Laurel Garden Club of Beacon Falls will fill that role.

“Unless you are a resident of Beacon Falls you don’t know it is Veterans Park. The sign is all the way at the back. With this sign it will make it more visible and people will appreciate it more,” said Yvonne Posick, president of the garden club.

The marker costs $1,470 and is paid for by the garden club. Resident Jay Wislon, who spearheaded the effort to get the marker, said it takes about 16 weeks from when the order is placed to receive the marker. Once the town receives and installs the marker it will hold a ceremony to unveil it.
