NAUGATUCK — A 32-year-old Naugatuck woman was arrested Tuesday after police say she left her children in the car at Walmart while she attempted to fraudulently return items in the store.

Police were called to the store on New Haven Road at about 4:40 p.m. for a report of children left alone in a car. Police located the children’s mother, Jennifer Sprague, inside the store and said she selected items and attempted to return them fraudulently.

Naugatuck police spokesman Lt. Bryan Cammarata said two children, both under the age of 10, were left in the car. Police called the Department of Children and Families, he said, and the children’s father came to the store to pick them up.

Sprague was charged with risk of injury to child, leaving child under 12 unsupervised, second-degree reckless endangerment and sixth-degree larceny. She was held on a $10,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Wednesday.
