REGION 16 — A dozen proposals were funded this year under Region 16’s innovative grant initiative.

The initiative was started by the Region 16 Board of Education, which oversees schools in Beacon Falls and Prospect, in 2012. The program earmarks $10,000 in the school budget to pay for the grants. Under the initiative, teachers apply for grants to fund projects that support instructional activities that fall outside of the current curriculum.

Among the proposals approved this year are $650 for equipment for Woodland Regional High School’s new timber team, $600 for two novelists and/or poets to speak to students, $500 for virtual reality field trips, and $650 for multi-lingual books and DVDs for Long River Middle School.
