NAUGATUCK — Police arrested a 25-year-old New Britain man after they say he broke into a home during the early morning hours on Monday and stole a car.

Maxwell Price, of 1544 Stanley St., New Britain, was charged Monday with first-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny and risk of injury to child.

The charges stem from a burglary on Gorman Street.

Naugatuck police spokesman Lt. Bryan Cammarata said the investigation shows that Price stole a car from New Britain. He drove that car to Waterbury and then Naugatuck before crashing the it, Cammarata said.

The stolen car from New Britain couldn’t be driven following the crash, police said, leaving Price in search of another car.

Shortly before 2 a.m., Cammarata said, Price broke into a home on Gorman Street, took the victim’s car keys and stole her car, which was in the driveway. The victim and a child were home at the time, Cammarata said.

The victim called police, and officers located the car and Price in the area.

Cammarata said the investigation remains open. He said it appears Price ended on up on Gorman Street by coincidence and attempted to break into other homes before finally gaining entrance to one. Cammarata said police received another call from a resident on Gorman Street who reported an attempted break-in.

Police are asking residents who may have damage to their home related to a break-in to call the Naugatuck Police Department at 203-729-5221.

Price was held on a $100,000 surety bond.

The burglary was one of several incidents from the past several days that police are investigating.

The Subway restaurant on Old Waterbury Turnpike was burglarized on Nov. 18. Cammarata said a suspect or suspects broke into the sandwich shop overnight and stole loose change from the register.

Police received a report of a burglary at the Union City Little League building on Morris Street Monday, as well.

Cammarata said there were also several larcenies from cars and some minor vandalism that occurred. He said the cars that were broken into were unlocked.

Now that the weather is getting colder, he reminded residents not to leave their cars unlocked if they are warming up in the morning and to never leave cars unattended while running and unlocked.
